Presented for your consideration, a sleek and elegant Holtkötter Halogen Desk Lamp With Ellipsoidal Glass Shade Model #6244/2 Founded in 1964, by Franz Holtkötter, his eponymous lighting design firm is based in Waldliesborner, Westphalia, Germany. At its nucleus, the clean aesthetics that drive design at Holtkötter are greatly inspired by the tenets of the Bauhaus school of thought and design. ‘Licht machen,’ to ‘make light’ is of course the primary objective but aesthetic appeal, noble craftsmanship and precious materials are greatly considered and implemented in every piece created. From the onset, Holtkötter has produced ‘Lighting Machines’ that employ manufacturing methods that are aligned with German ‘Handwerkstradition’ or the ‘Craft Tradition.’ From design to execution, Holtkötter is among the last remaining firms that performs all aspects in house. This unerring excellence results in extraordinary artisanal ‘Lighting Machines.’ Now retired, this extraordinary desk lamp from the ‘Leuchten Nauticus Series’ of table lamps by Holtkötter is singularly elegant in its minimalist thrust. Polished brushed brass surfaces lend a sleek aesthetic. Twin halogen bulbs are controlled by a full-range dimmer. One glass bulb cover is missing (consult photographs 13, 14 and 15). Some of the white paint is detaching from the underside of the ellipsoidal glass shade in places. (consult photographs 9, 10, 11 and 12). Glass shade simply clips on socket arms. Dimmer switch in perfect working order. (consult video) There are some tiny blemishes at the torso of the lamp and around the dimmer switch but nothing significant. (consult photograph 3). A stunning desk or table lamp that would harmonise spectacularly in any Mid-Century Modern or contemporary décor. There are 5 extra halogen bulbs included. Paper label attached to bottom protective green felt reads: ‘HOLTKÖTTER LEUCHTEN 6244/2 AB’ and the second line reads: ‘Bulb 40 W Halopin (sic) Clear, Included.’ Approximate measurements; 12 1/2” in height x 11 1/4” in width (end to end of ellipsoidal glass shade) x 7” in width((end to end of base) 4” in depth (at base) Smoke and pet-free home.
